Roof Replacement Case Studies: Three Types of Attic Ventilation on Monroe CT Home
Upon inspection of this home in Monroe Connecticut, we could feel that the plywood roof deck was rotted from the top of the roof! This prompted our HAAG certified roof inspector to take a further look. After a couple minutes in the attic we discovered the issue. Believe it or not it is possible to have too much ventilation, certain vents will negate the effects of others and actually cause more harm than good as was the case for this Fairfield County home.
We ordered the materials necessary to remedy the issue the home was having. By blocking the gable vents on the home we were able to create a freely flowing ventilation path between the soffit vents and the ridge vent. Proper ventilation will prevent ice dams from forming as well as allow the roof system to breath and remove moisture from the underside of the plywood, thus creating a healthy, long lasting roof system.
